    New work May 2011

Following the theme of 'dreamcatchers'

this is the first of a new series of work inspired by poetry about dreams.

The Poet:    Sorojini Naidu

Born:          1879

Died:           1949

Sarojini Naidu was a distinguished poet, renowned freedom fighter

and one of the great orators of her time. She was famously known

as Bharatiya Kokila (The Nightingale of India). She was the first Indian

woman to become the President of the Indian National Congress and

the first to become the Governor of a state in India.

The Poem:

Excerpt from 'Song of a Dream'

Once in the dream of a night I stood,

Lone in the light of a magical wood,

Soul-deep in visions that poppy-like sprang;

And spirits of Truth were the birds that sang,

And spirits of Love were the stars that glowed,

And spirits of Peace were the streams that flowed

In that magical wood in the land of sleep.

My art is an eclectic mix of vibrant paintings executed in oils, acrylics, mixed media, and inks. I sometimes work on textured canvas and I am interested in expressing my creativity in both abstract and figurative styles.

The energy created by the elements is the basis for all
movement within the landscape and is key to these images,
which also aim for visual harmony.
