Art has always been a very important part of my life. In my early years I would rather be caught drawing under the desk top than tackle the subject we were focusing on!  At the age of 15 I was chosen, as one of only three students at the girls school I was attending, to take up a Foundation scholarship at the then prestigious Hornsey Art College in North London. Despite choosing a career in the commercial world, I maintained my love of the subject attending many courses and classes over the years.

With the commitments of family life easing, I was finally able to realise my ambition of gaining a Fine Art Degree, which I successfully completed in 2005. This intense period of study and exploration enabled me to find new expressions for my art and launched me into a new phase of my life, one that was long overdue but has proved to be very exciting. I now devote most of my spare time to art; either painting, or running workshops and classes for others who, like me, with to indulge their love of the subject.

Inspiration is drawn from many sources. My interest in the natural world, in particular plants and landscape, has always been a great influence on my work and provides an inexhaustible source for the future. I feel invigorated by 'wild' places. The Lake District, The Scilly Isles, Scottish Moors and Clifftop walks. My own garden is not only a source for the study of plant structures, but a place in which to contemplate new ideas.

The energy created by the elements is the basis for all movement within the landscape and is key to my images. I aim to create artwork that lifts the spirits, is energetic, harmonic and engages the viewer with its sense of space. I have found the use of texturising fabrics, for example muslin and hessian, provide my canvases with a new dimension and the possibility of applying the paint, be it oil or acrylics, in an expressive and liberating way. This work is based on my personal experience of the elements in a variety of landscapes; capturing the essence of the moment and communicating that to the viewer.

There is always time, however, for a more lighthearted approach to my artwork and within this website you will find a variety of subjects that covers all creative possibilities!

Inspiration

My inspiration is drawn from many sources. Most of it is related to the landscape. My own garden is not only a source of inspiration but a place in which to contemplate new ideas.  My interest in the natural world, in particular plants and landscape, has always been a great influence on my work and provides an inexhaustible source for future work.
